Shakila Nasrin, age 48, is a widowed mother to her 4 children. Her husband passed away in July 2019 and she has been raising her children alone since. The family’s hope for now, is for Nasrin to at least be healthy until all of her children are settled. But in order for her life expectancy to extend, she must go through her cancer treatment.. which will cost her approximately 80,000 taka each month ($945 US dollars).
Nasrin was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer on July 5, 2021. This diagnosis was after a major surgery she had in May 2021 as a result of her thyroid disorder. Her thyroidectomy (the surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland) has costed her over 5.2 lakhs (5,23,500) in taka (approximately $6,175 in US dollars). With the help of extended family, funds were raised for her emergency surgery. The lump in her neck grew to be as big as the side of a tennis ball in the span of 3-4 months, causing problems in breathing and eating. Her family sent her into surgery in hopes that after, she would be free from the disease she has been dealing with for decades.. only to find out a month later, because of her stitchings from the surgery not properly healing, that she is in stage 3 of lung cancer.
Anything helps towards her cause. As of July 7, 2021, the current value of 1 US dollar is 85 taka. If we can raise $10,000 in US dollars, it could cover 7 months of treatment.
Whether you can or cannot donate, we ask that you keep Nasrin and her family in your thoughts. They are struggling to accept the reality of such devastating news, only two years after they tragically lost the head of their household from a heart attack. Thank you.
