Shak is looking for funding to help with the start-up costs of a food stand that will serve citizens of Tamale in Northern Region Ghana!
For eight years, Shak helped members of small communities throughout Northern Region Ghana gain access to clean water by assisting in the installation, training, and upkeep involved with small-scale, women-owned clean water businesses. In his position, he was also an important bridge between cultures, doubling as a translator for students/young professionals (like me in 2015) that traveled to Ghana to assist with the implementation of these businesses. Working alongside him, I could tell he was a great leader, a hard worker, and one who always keeps the well-being of his fellow community members in mind. Also, everyone in the city of Tamale (population 200,000+) seemed to know and like him, so it spoke a great deal to his awesomeness.
However, recent knee surgery has kept Shak out of work with limited mobility. This, mixed with partial community shutdowns enacted to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, has made it difficult for him to find a new position. Nonetheless, he has still found a new way to serve nearby folks and earn a living by starting a shop that will sell fried rice dishes to those in Tamale.
He has identified an existing food stand available for purchase, but, considering Shak is still paying off surgery costs, he cannot currently afford start-up expenses without help. Financial contributions would go toward the purchase of items such as the stand, an ice chest, a refrigerator, a gas cylinder, chairs, tables, and the initial batch of fresh food items.
Shak has spent many years working to extend a helping hand to those who needed it, and he was reluctant to ask for outside assistance in this matter. In these difficult and uncertain circumstances, however, he could definitely use a hand in return. The fact that he is still looking to earn a living and support his family through the start of his own business is inspiring to me and, I believe, deserving of some outside assistance.
So please, consider contributing to Shak's brand new Rockin' Rice Shak! (That may not actually be the name once it opens, but I thought it was somewhat catchy).
