Shakti Needs Our Help

Shakti. Shakti the Queen. Shaktopattomus. Shakti, the Therapy Dog. Shakti the Heart-Healer.

If you have been fortunate enough to be graced by Shakti's presence, you've surely been positively impacted. From the very beginning, almost 13 years ago, Shakti has possessed a tenderness and magic that is difficult to describe in words, but is felt deeply by all who cross her path.

You may know Shakti when she served as the CEO (Chief Eating Officer) and Head Greeter at the Lucky Paws Bakery & Unique BARKtique in downtown Lawrence. There, she met all with a friendly smile (ear tip to ear tip) and happy tail wags. She loved everyone who came through the door (except that one chihuahua who bit her on the nose!). There, Shakti touched and changed lives, serving as an amazing ambassador for her bully breed.

You may know her through her work with the Loving Paws Animal Therapy Association, where she serves as a Certified Therapy Dog. Shakti was the inspiration behind the Loving Paws program and is the founding dog. As a Certified Therapy Dog, she generously shares her bright, sparkly, loving heart with our community’s most vulnerable. Over the past 12 ½ years, Shakti has graciously and tenderly interacted with literally thousands of lives, young and old, and made them better. She has been the purest blessing.

Last Thursday, Shakti was attacked and immediately taken to receive veterinary care. She was in shock upon arrival and has been fighting for her life ever since. Shakti suffers from Cushing’s Disease and liver failure, so the attack and physical impact of going into shock have created some complicated obstacles for her to surmount.

She has been transported to BluePearl Pet Hospital, where she is receiving the best medical care available from the most skilled, highly trained veterinarians. Shakti is doing everything in her power to stay with us…she is fighting for her life, and she now needs help from us. The cost of her Blue Pearl care is expensive and mounting as each day passes. Of course, she is more than worth it.
