SHAMAN MEDICINE WOMAN DOCUMENTARY

INTRODUCTION / INTRODUZIONE:
I love making films that show unique points of view. Films that nourish, inspire and bring awareness. I believe that a film can be a medicine for the viewer, for the eyes, the heart and the soul. This would be the first in a series of films that I'd love to make about people who have an important message for the world, so that the viewers can have more tools to learn how to truly love each other and take better care of the planet where we live. The cinema, the arts, have a great responsibility in this respect, because they can, with their contribution, help to raise the consciousness. With this feature length documentary I would love that more people can discover and treasure the message and teachings that Kit Shepperd received and bring to the world.

Amo molto fare film che mostrino altri punti di vista. Film che nutrano, ispirino e portino consapevolezza alla gente. Credo che un film possa essere una medicina per chi lo guarda, per gli occhi, il cuore e l'anima. Vorrei che questo fosse il primo di una serie di film su persone che hanno un messaggio importante da portare al mondo, perchè la gente possa avere più strumenti per imparare ad amarsi realmente ed avere maggior cura del pianeta in cui viviamo. Il cinema, le arti, credo abbiano una grande responsabilità in questo senso, perchè possono, con il loro contributo, aiutare ad elevare la coscienza. Vorrei con questo documentario che più persone conoscessero e facessero tesoro del messaggio e degli insegnamenti che Kit Shepperd ha ricevuto e porta al mondo.

HOW THIS PROJECT IS BORN / COME E' NATO QUESTO PROGETTO:
In 2014, Kit Shepperd, at the age of 72, traveled for the first time outside of her country, the United States, to Italy where she was invited to teach. As soon as I saw her, with her long white hair and her direct gaze, I was struck by her beauty, authority, authenticity and naturalness. I immediately felt the desire to make a film about her. In the weeks that Kit was in Italy I followed and started to film her, gathering her words of wisdom. I was particularly fascinated by how Kit relates to plants, animals, stones and of course people.

Kit Shepperd viaggia per la prima volta fuori dal suo paese, gli Stati Uniti, all'età di 72 anni, nel 2014, invitata in Italia per insegnare alcuni seminari. Appena l'ho incontrata, sono rimasta colpita dalla bellezza, dalla autorevolezza e dall'autenticità di questa donna dai lunghi capelli bianchi e dallo sguardo vivo. Ho sentito subito nascere in me il desiderio di raccontarla in un film documentario. Nelle settimane in cui Kit è stata in Italia, ho avuto modo di stare con lei, iniziare a riprenderla e raccogliere le sue parole di saggezza. Sono rimasta affascinata in modo particolare dal vedere come Kit si relaziona alle piante, agli animali, alle pietre e alle persone naturalmente.

THE DOCUMENTARY / IL DOCUMENTARIO:
We filmed Kit where she lives, in her small quaint house in Eureka Springs in Arkansas,  in her everyday life - while she takes care of her animals, while she prays, while she does her healing work, while she visits beautiful and sacred places of her land. We gathered Kit's words of wisdom, her silences, her moments of joy, her laughter. We filmed the visible and the invisible, with a careful and poetic view.
In this documentary we would love to tell of Kit's humanity and relationship with something greater than ourselves and also not separate from us, that we could call Wakantanka, Great Spirit, Consciousness, Self, God, or whatever you prefer. Kit as a Shaman and Medicine Woman is as a bridge between the material and the immaterial world and also between the Western and the Native American World.

Abbiamo ripreso Kit nel luogo in cui vive, la sua piccola casa di legno ad Eureka Springs in Arkansas. L'abbiamo filmata nella sua quotidianità, mentre si prende cura dei suoi animali, mentre prega, mentre cura, mentre si reca in alcuni dei luoghi sacri della sua terra. Abbiamo raccolto le parole di saggezza di Kit, i suoi silenzi, i momenti di gioia, le sue risate. Abbiamo filmato il visibile e l'invisibile, con uno sguardo attento e poetico.
In questo documentario vorremmo raccontare l'umanità di Kit e la sua relazione con ciò che è più grande di noi e non separato da noi, che possiamo chiamare Wakantanka, Dio, Grande Spirito, Coscienza, Se' o come si preferisce. Kit infatti come Sciamana e Donna di Medicina è un ponte tra il mondo materiale ed il mondo immateriale ed anche tra il mondo Occidentale ed il mondo Nativo Amerindiano.


KIT SHEPPERD:
Kit Shepperd, Shaman and Medicine Women of Native American origins lives in Eureka Springs, Arkansas (USA). “My connection to healing began with my birth. My grandparents and parents used home remedies and herbal preparations to take care of themselves, my siblings and myself. During my life shamanism began to present itself to me and the universe sent me many teachers of native ways.”
“Wolf Shield Woman” is the native name that was given to Kit during one of the four Vision Quests she did. She danced her first Sundance in 2008. Kit is also a Pipe Carrier. “I am very honored that the “Creator of All That Is” teaches and performs my work through me”.

Kit Shepperd, Sciamana e Donna di Medicina di origini Native Amerindiane vive ad Eureka Springs, in Arkansas (Usa). “La mia connessione con la guarigione è iniziata con la mia nascita-dice Kit-. I miei nonni e genitori utilizzavano rimedi casalinghi e preparati di erbe per prendersi cura di loro stessi, di me e dei miei fratelli. Nel corso della mia vita lo sciamanesimo ha cominciato a presentarsi a me e l'universo mi ha mandato molti insegnanti nativi.”
“Donna Scudo di Lupo” è il nome nativo di Kit, datole durante una delle sue quattro Vision Quest. Nel 2008 Kit ha ballato il suo primo Sundance. Kit è anche Portatrice della Pipa Sacra. “Sono molto onorata che il Creatore di tutte le cose insegni e svolga il suo lavoro attraverso di me.”

THE FILMMAKER / LA FILMMAKER
Sara Pozzoli, an independent filmmaker for the last twenty years, studied cinema at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome and at the University of Bologna (DAMS). Her films have participated in several international film festivals (including the Venice Film Festival, FIDMarseille, Turin, Nyon, etc). Sara lives in Italy between the countryside and the city of Rome, together with her husband Anthony and three beautiful cats.

Sara Pozzoli, filmmaker indipendente da più di vent'anni, ha studiato cinema al Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Roma ed all'Università di Bologna (Dams). I suoi film hanno partecipato a diversi festival di cinema internazionali (tra cui Festival di Venezia, FIDMarseille, Torino, Nyon, etc). Sara vive in Italia tra la campagna e la città di Roma, insieme a suo marito Anthony ed a tre bellissime gatte.
