Shamsuden Sponsor Groups, helping refugees
Donation protected
We are requesting your support for sponsoring a refugee family from Myanmar who are currently living in Malaysia. The family consists of:
- Alam, 35, father
- Saida, 32, mother
- Sharif, 18, son
- Zahir, 13, Son
- Shamin, 7 daughter
- Shahin, 2 Son
The family belongs to the Rohingya ethnic minority, who have faced persecution, violence, and discrimination in Myanmar for decades. They fled their home in Rakhine state in 2017, after a brutal military crackdown that killed thousands of Rohingya and forced more than 700,000 to seek refuge in neighboring countries. They arrived in Malaysia with the help of smugglers, but they have no legal status or protection there. They live in a cramped and unsafe apartment in Kuala Lumpur, where they struggle to afford rent, food, and medical care. They have no access to formal education or work opportunities, and they face constant harassment, exploitation, and arrest by the authorities and locals.
The family has been registered with UNHCR since 2018, but they have little hope of being resettled through the UNHCR programmer, which is severely underfunded and oversubscribed. They have no relatives or friends in any other country who can sponsor them through family reunification programmers. They have heard about the (Welcome Corps) in United Stated, which allows private sponsors to bring refugees to United Stated and support them for their first year of settlement. They are eager to apply for this programmers, as they believe that United Stated is a safe and welcoming country where they can rebuild their lives and contribute to society.
The family meets the eligibility criteria for the Welcome Corps programmer, as they are recognized as refugees by UNHCR and they have no other durable solutions available to them. They have also passed the medical and security screening required by the U.S government. They have Basic English skills and they are willing to learn more and adapt to the Canadian culture and values. They have various skills and experiences that they can use to find employment and support themselves in U.S. Alam used to work as a carpenter and a farmer in Malaysia, and he has also learned some plumbing and electrical work in Malaysia. Saida used to be a teacher and a seamstress in Myanmar, and she has also volunteered as a community health worker in Malaysia. Sharif, Zahir, Shamin and Shahin how are bright and curious children who love to read and play. They have attended informal classes organized by NGOs in Malaysia, and they are eager to go to school and make friends in U.S.
The family needs your help to make their dream of resettlement in U.S a reality. The Welcome Corps program requires the sponsors to cover the costs of transportation, housing, food, clothing, and other basic needs for the refugees for their first year in U.S. The estimated amount of funds needed to sponsor the family of six is $14,550 Cash, which includes a contingency fund of 10%. I have already raised $5000 cash through personal savings and donations from friends and family, and I am looking for more sponsors to join me in this humanitarian cause. I have formed a Group of Five (G5) with four other U.S citizens who are committed to supporting the family in their integration process. We have submitted our application to the U.S government and we are waiting for their approval.
If you are interested in sponsoring the family, please contact me at [[email redacted]] or [414-595-6518]. You can also visit the website of the U.S government [here] (https://welcomecorps.org/) or the website of UNHCR U.S [here] for more information about the Welcome Corps program and the sponsorship process. Any amount of donation or support is greatly appreciated and will make a difference in the lives of the family and the community.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
[Shamsuden Sponsorship Groups]
