Shanda Brain Surgery Fund

Donation protected

Shanda Wallace is a 28-year-old past student of the Montego Bay high school and the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. Having a passion for service, ministry and philanthropy, she has been an active member of the Mt. Salem Open Bible Church in Montego Bay and is the Director of Community Service for the Rotaract Club of Montego Bay.

She is vibrant, intelligent, resourceful, determined, and fun! If you know Shanda, you know she has always been active. She would walk and run regularly to stay fit and minster in dance. A determined and independent soul, Shanda finds ways to get what needs to get done, even if she has to do it herself.

So, of course, it was very unusual when she would lose her balance without any warning and eventually need assistance to do basic things like walking and climbing stairs, which she has managed on her own for years. After one of those falls, she was taken to the hospital, where they did a series of tests and discovered a tumor on the right side of her brain. A large petrotentorial meningioma causing severe compression on the brain stem. A very complex tumor that can only be treated effectively at specialized centers like the Univerisity of Miami.

Shanda was referred to Dr. Morcos at the University of Miami, who specializes in these complex tumors. The doctors advised the tumor cannot be treated in Jamaica because they do not have the capability to manage these kinds of complex tumors and do not have the specialists available in Jamaica to handle the surgery and treatment needed to remove it.

This news, as you can imagine has been extremely challenging, but because of who Shanda is and her relationship with her father in heaven, we are confident she will be okay after getting the treatment she needs.

The next step in her process is to find the funds needed to cover medical expenses and related costs. The family has created this page to ask for your help. Any assistance you can provide will help with her medical expenses. As a result of her condition, Shanda has been unable to work for the last few months, and her mother has become her primary caregiver. Shanda and her mom will need USD 79,422.30 to cover her medical expenses, so we are putting the goal at USD 80,000.

Whether you can give or not, please join us in prayer for Shanda's full recovery. We trust God for favor throughout this process, from beginning to end!
