Shanda’s fight against MS
As many of you know, Shanda has been experiencing a few medical problems for about a year now. Last November, she had her first retina detachment. Since then, she has had 3 more detachments and a tear in one eye. Although she can still see, her vision has never returned to normal. Fast forward to August 2020, Shanda’s left leg and foot became tingly and numb. Several ER/Dr visits, tests, procedures and MRIs later, she found out Monday November 16, 2020 that her fear of what she thought was wrong, was in fact her new reality. She was diagnosed with MS. Numbness and tingling has now moved throughout her body, some areas have never gotten better, while other areas it comes and goes. She has started treatments, but has yet to see any recovery in areas of numbness in her body. Doctors are worried about the rapid spread of numbness she is experiencing and we’re still unsure if the eye problems were a part of this or completely unrelated. This can be permanent, but to help stop/slow the spread of her symptoms, Shanda will need a special medication that she will have to inject 3 times a week. This medication can cost thousands of dollars, but Shanda has missed work for these emergencies, procedures and Dr appts, and along with the financial struggles of 2020 that many of us have experienced, she’s in a bind and can use all the help she can get. Although her children help as much as they can, 2020 has not been kind to many, as I’m sure we all know. I’m hoping to ease some of the financial burden for my mom and show her that there is hope. As many of you know, she has a new grand baby as of this year and she wants nothing more than to be able to love and play with him, take him for walks and not let this affect her life as much as it’s trying to. Anything helps, and we love and appreciate each and every one of you willing to donate and/or share this campaign.
Multiple Sclerosis(MS)-
A disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves.
In MS, resulting nerve damage disrupts communication between the brain and the body. This is treatable, but there is no cure.
