Friends of Shane Blanchard, we are requesting donations to defray the on-going expenses incurring with multiple surgeries and living costs not covered with insurance. Being unable to be at his job, the bills are accumulating. We are hoping to reach a goal of $10,000!
A brief history of Shane:
Shane is an Oskaloosa 45 year old native, graduating class of 93. At the age of 22 he had his first kidney transplant, with the kidney being donated by his brother. He had done well for several years. In 2019, Shane was in need of another kidney transplant. A dear friend donated their kidney on Nov. 6th. On Nov. 27th the kidney had to be permanently removed as it was not working. Shane has underwent several other surgeries since having the kidney removed. His stomach has filled with blood and stents were put into his artery to stop the bleeding. Most recently Shane has developed a hematoma and is battling a bacteria infection. Trying to build up his strength, he has continually been in and out of the hospitals. In the last 3 months he has only been home 3 weeks. Shane was to be transferred to the Mayo Clinic, but it was out of network with his insurance. Now he is awaiting to be transported to Iowa City Hospital from Iowa Methodist. Shane is facing a very high risk surgery and possible leg amputation. He needs to get rid of all infections and build his strength back up to receive another kidney in the future.
