Please help a great man, veteran, friend, and brother to many in paying his unexpected hospital bills.

Those of you who know my brother Shane know he is not the type of person to ever ask for help. He is a very self-sufficient and giving man. He gave to our Country while serving in the military. He gives to everyone he comes in contact with on a daily basis. He also gives the best, and most honest deals possible on AC units in all of Florida. Unfortunately even the strongest people have situations thrown at them where they must look to others for assistance.

Shane was rushed to the hospital last Friday morning as he almost bled to death from a then unknown cause. Doctors immediately found an extremely low blood count as he had been throwing up fresh blood. (His hemoglobin was 4.1 and normal is around 15) They said he was moments away from bleeding to death. He received multiple blood transfusions over the next 24 hours to eventually get this up to an acceptable level.

What is not acceptable is that he had been having pains and working with the VA to diagnose them since last February.  Shane had an appointment at the VA that very morning but instead had to call 911 and be taken to a private hospital instead due to his urgent condition.
While in the hospital doctors performed multiple scans and tests to determine the cause. A camera showed that nearly half his stomach was ulcerated with visible blood vessels showing inside these ulcers. A CAT Scan revealed a mass the size of a grapefruit engulfing half of his stomach and part of his liver.  The doctors quickly decided he needed to be transferred to another hospital more suited for the urgent situation as their only means would have been to remove most of his stomach and half of his liver if the bleeding continued.
The next hospital immediately performed additional tests as well as repeated tests.  Biopsy results revealed the mass to be high-grade B-Cell Lymphoma Cancer. The doctors again decided his condition was too critical for this hospital to handle properly and they tried to pass him off to a third hospital in Orlando that they "thought" would be able to handle his condition. At this point, we stepped in and demanded that they search for the facility most suited to handle this extreme case. After some research and a few phone calls, they were able to get him transferred to Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he can now get the proper treatment he needs.

Thankfully, the doctors at Shands Hospital are optimistic that a full recovery can be made, although there is a lot of work during the coming months ahead. This will include a full regiment of Chemotherapy which means he will have multiple week long stays in the hospital as well as many trips back and forth for other treatments.

The cost of these treatments is extremely expensive and unfortunately, the VA only covers a portion of them.  Shane's estimated out of pocket costs could run into MANY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.

In addition to his medical expenses, the cost of his ordinary living expenses will also continue. Because he is self-employed, Shane will have NO INCOME during his treatment and recovery.

Your generosity will not only greatly help him financially,  but it will also give him less to worry about during this trying ordeal which will help to speed up his recovery.

Even though he has a hard time asking for things, I know Shane will be forever grateful for any help he receives.
