Shaner family fundraiser
Donation protected
My name is Natalie Shaner and I have created this fundraiser for my brother (Nick Shaner) and his wife (Samantha Shaner) to assist with medical bills and day to day expenses for their family after an accident that has left them both with limited work for an unknown amount of time. They have two kids ages 11 and 8. Nick works at the Ford truck plant and is a volunteer firefighter at Zoneton Fire Department. Sam works at the DMV and is the Auxiliary President of the Fire Department. They attend Little Flock Baptist Church.
Original post:
On Saturday July 29,2023 Sam was headed home (alone) and swerved to miss something in the road on John Harper which ended up causing her vehicle to go off the road. Due to the impact and her injuries, she could not press the brakes. She went between a high voltage power line tower, and the car eventually stopped in a field. She immediately called my brother because she knew he could dispatch emergency crews faster since it would be their own fire department family responding. It took them a bit to locate her car, but they finally found her, assisted her out of the car and had her ready to be transported to the hospital (Thank you to Zoneton Fire Department). Sam was immediately taken back for CT scans, MRI’s, and any test possible due to the severity of her numbness and pain. They discovered that her vertebrae had broken and pieces were lodged in her spinal cord. She had emergency surgery around 9pm the night of her accident to remove the broken vertebrae and fix her spinal cord. She is now known as robowoman because she gained several screws, rods, and plates in her back. She has slowly started to recover and is able to walk, but has numbness in her legs still and spinal fluid leaking to her head causing extreme headaches. She spent almost a week in ICU and was moved to Frazier rehab on Saturday August 5, 2023. Due to the accident, Sam will not be able to work for several weeks, and may not be able to return full time when she does return. Nick has exhausted his paid time off from Ford and will only be working 2-3 days a week to help Sam as much as he can, and may have to take off several weeks when she returns home. He will not be paid for any time he is off work. Any donation will be appreciated and will help cover medical bills, food, gas, and day to day essentials for their family. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly! Thank you!
