Shanika’s Recovery Effort
Donation protected
The ladies in the profile are mother and daughter, Imani & Shanika Reid, respectfully. Shanika and I have been friends for almost 16 years, and in that time I've watched her jump hurdles better than any record-breaking Olympic athlete. Sadly, Shanika is now in a battle for her life having been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. As a single mother, she has tactfully defeated being undocumented, homeless, and underemployed - and all these battles she's fought with grace. Never was she ever bitter or unwilling, and never did I ever witness Imani without what she needed and most of what she wanted. This capeless hero is prideful, determined, and disciplined. In any given month Shanika will work without ceasing because she makes no excuses when it comes to providing for her daughter. She will not ask for help and even in this crisis, she is insisting on being released ASAP so she can go back to work and ensure that Imani's comfort is uninterrupted. Please help me raise $30,000 for Shanika and Imani. This amount will go towards her rent, food, car payment, insurance, and other bills. I hope that with the money we raise Shanika will feel comfortable enough to relax, not work so hard, and give herself time to recover. Aneurysms are unpredictable, and so far she’s had 4 episodes of temporary blindness and paralysis, which is why ideally, she needs to be resting and not toiling away for 8-12 hours. If it is within reach, please help give this fighter a well-deserved break.
