Shannon's Cancer Treatment Journey

Hi - My name is Shannon Avery Briggs. I'm a wife, a mother of 2, step mother of 2, and step "Gigi" to a beautiful little girl.  March 18, 2016 I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer), one week shy of the 10 year anniversary of my mother’s passing from breast cancer. Initially, I was planning to go with conventional treatment, but found the healing/survival rate to be quite discouraging and frightening. So, I decided to do some research and found An Oasis of Healing, a cancer treatment center in Mesa, AZ that offers a much more humane approach to treating cancer, one that doesn’t destroy the immune system, and actually builds the immune system. The treatment at An Oasis for Healing lasts up to 8 weeks, so I will be required to take another leave from work. My sick leave and vacation were exhausted when I had to take a leave from work to assist with caring for my ailing father. The funds I receive will go directly for my treatment and travel costs. My goal is to begin treatment as soon as possible hopefully May or June. Being able to go to the Oasis for Healing means my life and is my 1st step back to health.  I can continue living and laughing, taking bike rides on sunny days, hiking with my husband, and avoid the devastating and destructive side effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and many surgeries that often occur with reconstructive treatment.  It would be a gift to build my immunity, and return my health to me, so I can focus on my family, friends, my faith, and my life. I am so touched and humbled by all of you who are willing to assist me on my journey. Let me extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you.
