In Loving Memory of Shannon Moran
A message from her family
Shannon passed away on August 11, 2023 after a long battle with cancer, leaving behind a beautiful family that was the most important thing in her life. Although Shannon had been battling her illness for years, the sudden progression and passing caught all of us off guard and heartbroken. It was only months ago that she was working full time or strapping on her helmet and getting on her moped zooming down the road.
Because this happened to her in her prime, she hadn’t been able to build and save many funds for the “what’s next” in her or her family’s life. This GoFundMe will be used to alleviate some of the financial burdens that include the final arrangements, a celebration of life, and providing some financial stability for her family in the coming months as everything in the household changes.
If you knew Shannon at all, you would know that she had two main loves her entire life – her work and her children. Shannon was always working late on something, be it a real estate deal, working on spreadsheets at her apartment community or having her kids by her side working in her garden or staining a hardwood floor for a real estate project.
There was one thing that always shined the brightest in her eyes – her kids. The pride she had in them knew no bounds. Her home was an eternal safe haven, and no matter the situation or circumstance, her doors were always open for all of them.
Whenever Shannon would talk about the future she always desired to build a legacy for them. Shannon was a real estate professional with a love of property rehabilitation. She worked with her kids on properties over the years and was ready to continue this pathway with them by her side.
And if she wasn’t with her kids, she was working. She would burn the midnight oil working to get people into a new home, finalizing information to secure an apartment for a family, or putting together a resident event so that people could embrace the community that she loved. Sadly, the cancer diagnosis changed the opportunities for her to continue providing for both the people needing to find their next home as well as being able to create the legacy she so wanted for her kids.
Hopefully, through this GoFundMe, there will be funds available to help the kids continue where Shannon left off – to continue building that legacy that Shannon always dreamed of.
If you asked her co-workers and friends in Real Estate they would say that Shannon was a force of nature when it came to tackling a project. She wanted to do everything to her best ability and would not give up until it was complete. One such friend said “She was one of the most amazing business partners I ever had the pleasure to work with and quickly became a good friend. We tackled several community takeovers and rehabs
together and with her by my side there wasn’t anything we couldn't do.”
Shannon was never in it for the recognition - she just really cared about property management and real estate. Watching her teach her children how to flip homes and seeing their skills increase with each new project was so empowering. If Shannon said you can do this….you did. She made sure you would be successful and was with you every step of the way.
The world of Real Estate and specifically the San Antonio Apartment Industry lost a lot when Shannon passed. There will never be anyone as hardworking, kind, and supportive as she was.
Shannon’s Cancer Story:
It started with a pain in her stomach in 2020. The journey started with a removal of a gall bladder and her thinking everything was finally good. But the pain persisted and finally in April of 2020 the cancer was discovered. She was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. It had metastasized to her liver and that is where a tumor began to grow. Of course, the cancer had to be as unique as Shannon was so she went down the path of clinical trials, as regular chemotherapy treatment would not be very effective on her cancer.
So while she was going through weekly doses of chemotherapy she continued on. working full time. She continued to be a mother and grandmother. She worked on real estate in her free hours. She supported her kids in their business ventures. She proposed new business ventures. She started riding a moped. Does anyone see a pattern here? This diagnosis was not going to slow her down.
And between all that she read about treatments and medical journals describing procedures. She questioned every doctor she encountered. She made trips from California to Louisiana to consult with leading cancer teams. Time after time she was told no, but she persisted, like she always had done. But unfortunately, after over 3 years since diagnosis and the start of treatment, her body started to not be able to keep up with her spirit.
Her long 3+ year journey ended peacefully the morning of August 11th.
