Shannon Schmidt's medical expenses brain tumor

Hi, my name is Chris Emerick and I am raising funds for my dear friend Shannon Schmidt after her recent diagnosis of a brain tumor.

In January 2023, after a seizure episode, Shannon was diagnosed with a mass on her brain that has now been identified as a glioma. The doctors are recommending surgical removal of the mass along with post-surgery chemo, radiation, and rehabilitation.

Treatment is currently being sought at Mayo Clinic as they have not only the best record of recovery for this type of tumor resection but also the best surgical plan out of the three consultations that have been obtained. The first surgical opinion in MI would have potentially left her partially paralyzed and the second surgical opinion in MI was planning to only remove part of the tumor as they feared touching the area that the tumor is in, possibly leaving her with years of rehab and treatment to follow the surgery. Mayo clinic has stated they are confident that they can remove most if not all of the tumor resulting in a much better outcome.

Shannon’s insurance so far is denying payment for any treatment at Mayo and only offering partial coverage for local treatment.

The medical costs alone are astronomical without adding in time off work, travel for treatment and so on.

This fund is being set up to help Shannon and her family through this incredibly difficult time. This is a family that always has a helping hand for anyone in need.

Shannon is one of the most giving people you will ever meet, always going above and beyond to help others. She has spent years serving her community in various ways and always has a kind word for anyone that crosses her path. To see anyone go through this is devastating but especially someone that is such a bright light in this world.
