Treatment Support Fund for Shannon

January 16 Update
Several days ago Shannon experienced a setback while attending her aunt's funeral in Ottawa. She was admitted to the emergency room after collapsing in her hotel room due to vertebral compression /collapse in her T5. She remains in hopsital in Ottawa and is experiencing a lot of pain at the moment. They are trying many different medications to manage the pain so that she can receive targeted radiation treatment in the next few days. Once she is stable and the pain is more manageable the goal will be to find a way to get her home so that she can work with her team of doctors in Vancouver and Whistler and be near her family and loved ones. Please send good energy and prayers her way and help her family bring her home as soon as possible. Any financial support you can provide will go a long way in helping Shannon and her family get through this setback and on to the next course of treatment. Thank you so much to everyone who has already helped. Your support is so appreciated and the love you send is so important. As I am sure everyone can understand, being in a large, anonymous city hospital can be challenging in even the simplest cases. We want to bring her home safely and quickly so she can be surrounded with the best possible team of professionals and loved ones who have her best interests in mind and will advocate fiercely for her well being.
The $50000 that has already been raised went primarly towards her time at the treatment center in Mexio and the extensive monthly costs of her other treatments over the past few months. Medical flights are quite expensive and the need for treatment will continue when she gets home. I have increased the goal from $50,000 to $90,000 as $40,000 is a conservative estimate of what will be needed in the next month or so. Five, ten, twenty dollars, it is all helpful and deeply appreciated by all who love her.  Thank you, xoxo

Update From Shannon Flanagan
December 26, 2016

Happy holidays to all my friends and family!! Allan and I would like to say a very heartfelt Thank You to everyone who has so generously contributed to helping us through this tough time. Either through the Go Fund Me page, the two fundraisers put on by Thornhill Real Estate or friends of the family handing my parents money to pass on to me. It has all been an integral part in allowing me to get the treatments that I need and the time to focus on healing. We cannot thank you all enough. I wish I could give all of you individual hugs to show my appreciation. A recent MRI gave us the positive news we've been hoping for - the cancer has stopped spreading. There's no sign of any cancer in my brain or organs, which allowed me a huge sigh of relief. The treatments I've been using for the past 6 months have effectively stopped the cancer from continuing to grow. The time away at the cancer clinic in Mexico played a huge part in my health. My next round of treatment will be starting in January in Vancouver. Wishing everyone all the best in 2017!
With Love, Shannon and Allan

August 2016

Welcome to the fundraising page for Shannon Flanagan. This campaign has been created to support her at this time. Shannon was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer, which has spread to her bones. Please read on for further information... Shannon had concerns for several years about a small lump in her left breast and asked doctors about it during regular visits over the past 6 years. Her concerns were dismissed and no investigation was done until this year when it was identified as Stage 2 breast cancer. Following this diagnosis, Shannon was referred to several other specialists for further testing. A couple months later a PET scan revealed that it was much more serious than originally thought. The breast cancer had spread to her bones including her pelvis, sacrum, left arm, spine and ribs. Particularly of concern is her T5 which doctors fear will interfere with her spinal chord and cause spinal collapse leaving Shannon paralyzed. Being stage 4 means the doctors could no longer offer a cure which leads us to Shannon’s current treatment program outside of the mainstream medical system.

Shannon has opted to pursue a variety of alternative treatments that are, for the most part, self-administered. Her daily routine involves mistletoe injections, countless supplements, a strict dietary protocol of juicing several times per day and heat therapy along with weekly appointments with several holistic health care practitioners including receiving high dose vitamin C injections twice weekly which run $260 per appointment. She has had to step away from her career in order to make her health and well being her absolute top priority. At the moment her loving husband and family are providing all of her financial assistance, but realizing that this could take months, if not years, on the road to optimal health, this will not be a sustainable financial situation long term.

As we are all aware, anything that is not made by one of the big pharmaceutical companies is not covered by extended or government health care plans so the cost of these alternative treatments is quickly adding up.

This fundraiser has been organized to help remove some of the financial burden for Shannon and her family during this difficult time when her main focus needs to be on healing. If you are able to donate in any way, at any time, it would be much appreciated by her family and friends.

Shannon is an amazingly beautiful person inside and out, and has had such a positive influence on so many people. Her genuine personality, passion for the outdoors, care she puts into her family, her love for animals, and of course her bond with her twin flame, her husband Allan, has influenced us (her loving friends) to come together in her time of need. It is hard for many of us to imagine our vibrant and beautiful friend having this diagnosis. It hardly seems possible that someone who has always lived a healthy lifestyle and has always taken care of herself could be faced with such challenges.

Thank you for taking the opportunity to support this beautiful human!
