Shannon’s Century

My whole life my cousin Shannon (pictured above) has always seemed to have a beaming smile on her face and sought to find the best in every person and situation despite the hardships life throws her way.
She developed type 1 diabetes at the age of 11 creating many health issues in her life.
The diabetes has been causing precancerous tumors to form on her liver and on top of that her heart is giving her an equal amount of trouble.
Having a bi-cuspid valve that should be a tri-cuspid valve causes excess blood to flow to the wrong areas and not enough blood to flow to the right areas.
This is causing a lot of health issues for her.
Before her heart issue can be addressed she desperately needs a pancreas transplant to stop the damage the diabetes is doing to her body.
I’m so thrilled to say that last week my cousin Shannon underwent the pancreas transplant and it was a major success!
So this 100 mile skate is both to raise the support my cousin needs to survive these next two months of recovery and to inspire awareness about our hearts and how we can take care of them.
Many of us are blessed with functioning hearts and body’s yet we don’t take care of them and have little regard for the future damage we are causing.
I will be spending this week bringing awareness to good heart health through activities like yoga and skating, as well as sharing some of my favorite recipes for both real food and soul food that will have a positive effect on you, your heart, and your life.
All of this leading up to me skating 100 miles on Saturday around the city of St. Louis.
Yes 100 miles in one day.
All I’m asking is for a few dollars to help Shannon through her recovery and some positive vibrations to help me conquer this 100 mile city skate.
Everyone who donates this week will be entered into a drawing for a special heart themed art piece I created specifically for this campaign.(to be revealed Wednesday)
I hope that no matter what you find a little inspiration this week and think about your own heart and where it’s at, literally and figuratively.
Thank you as always for your support and time.
Peace, love, good vibes,- Kaleboston
