My name is Shantia Love. I am 35 years old. I am a wife and proud mother of 2 amazing little boys, Cooper, 4 and Cameron, 1. I live in Syracuse, NY. On July 29, 2020 I was diagnosed with Triple Positive Breast Cancer. After the completion of 6 rounds of chemo I will have to undergo surgery. I have planned to have a Bilateral Mastectomy with immediate reconstruction which has a recovery time up to 2 months in which I will not be able to work. Once I recover from that surgery I will also have to have a full hysterectomy.
After having my son in October 2019 I don't have much sick or personal time aquired as I had to use that for maternity leave. I do qualify for FMLA, however it is unpaid time off that only allows me to have comfort in having my job secured during my absence for recovery. I have applied for a work from home accomodation but was sadly informed that I can not perform the essential functions of my job from home and was unfortunately denied.
Being that my family's Healthcare is covered through my job that brings up another concern, how will I continue my fight against Breast Cancer and get the care required if I don't have Healthcare coverage due to loss of income.
My husband and I realized that it is inevitable that we will be reduced to a one income family, it is clear that with the challenges ahead we will need assistance financially.
Although our family has proven to be resilient we appreciate any contribution that will help.
