Shanti's Emergency Spinal Surgery: Anything Helps

On New Years Eve, we noticed that our Shanti girl wasn't walking on her back legs normally. On New Years Day, she completely collapsed, not being able to stand on her own. After bringing her to the ER she was diagnosed with a severe form of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). IVDD is a condition that occurs when the cushioning discs between the bones of the spinal column either bulge or burst into the space containing the spinal cord. When this disc material pushes on the spinal cord, it can cause pain, nerve damage, and even paralysis.

Shanti was given a 90% chance of walking again by getting emergency surgery on her spinal cord. Alternative methods of therapy could have helped to improve her condition, however she faced a greater chance of paralysis without surgery. We couldn't bear the thought of never seeing her walk on her own again and hated seeing her in so much pain, so we decided to proceed with getting her the emergency surgery she needed.

Unfortunately, there is an extremely high cost associated with getting her the MRI and surgery that she needed. There may also be a chance that this could happen to her again; this would lead to different methods of therapies which also could prove costly.

Any donation for our Shanti girl would be immensely appreciated and would go directly toward her medical bills. If we are at all able to surpass this goal, any money left over will be going towards the proper joint/bone supplements and supplies to help lower the chance of a recurrence.
