Shar Pei fever complication

My husband and myself are the proud owners of a 3 year old Shar Pei named Asha. She is a lively and wonderful girl who unfortunately has been diagnosed with Shar Pei Fever. Shar-Pei fever is a hereditary condition that affects nearly one in four Shar-Pei dogs. Affected dogs experience recurrent episodes of fever and inflammation, with no identifiable underlying cause. This causes the dog to feel ill and uncomfortable. In most cases this condition, while requiring life long care, testing and medication can be treated with success , the dog living a happy and productive life minus the occasional flare up . The severity of the flare up can range from additional hydration, medication and monitoring at home with resolution within 24-72 hours OR hospitalization when the fever gets critically high and/or additional complications. Unfortunately for Asha this Shar Pei Fever Episode was the latter. On Tuesday December 13,2022 Asha was taken to Clearwater Animal Referral and Emergency with a spiking fever that was 105 degrees at admission. Fully expecting to have IV fluids and monitoring done we dropped Asha off expecting to pick her up in 24 to 48 hours with an albeit hefty bill but a once again a healthy dog. While she has been admitted she has developed complications and this has snowballed into a medical disaster. She is currently still inpatient battling Shar Pei Fever, Vasculitis and Sepsis. She is currently having additional complications because of this nightmare combination such as GI upset, with potential of Gastroenteritis. Now because the catheter will not stay in IVs are now unfortunately out of the question and she is now in critical care needing as much help and care as possible.
Having Shar Peis most of my life, I have always been aware of the high cost for cute. Asha is not my first Shar Pei with Shar Pei Fever so when she got her diagnosis I immediately began to plan for her future and how to pay for the proper care she will need for a lifetime. I set aside money in an account, I signed her up for pet insurance and Care Credit. I planned ahead for emergencies and have never asked for help to care for her. But with the bill now exceeding $10,000, her funds gone, her insurance maxed out along with Care Credit we not only hold our breaths for updates but also for the bill. She will get better, and with each passing day the prognosis becomes even better but with Shar Pei fever this a game of time and waiting. There is no treatment to speed the process up and her overall condition prevents us from safely treating this at home.
Please help with what you can. We have gone through and tried to apply to charities and because she is urgent and in the ER/ICU she is disqualified. Please donate and send prayers, love and healing to our girl. Every cent donated will go towards the financial responsibility we have incurred to get her happy, healthy and whole. We are grateful for any support that can be given.
