On April 25th 2022, we received the most terrifying news and were in complete shock and disbelief. Sharda Naidu a 78-year-old wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many suffered a life-altering tragic incident. She had just finished her shift at the University of Alberta Hospital and was waiting to catch the LRT at the Jubilee station to go home where she was brutally assaulted.
She was approached by an unknown male who started cursing at her while she was standing inside the LRT station. She asked him to stop and proceeded to go outside and the male followed her at which point she told him to leave her alone otherwise she will call the police. In that moment he punched her in the face twice and pushed her off of the platform onto the railway tracks. The train was just moments away, she could see it coming towards her as she screamed for help and the train had to be stopped. To our misfortune this resulted in serious bone shattering injuries to her right leg. She was immediately taken to the University of Alberta Hospital and underwent emergency surgery. Sharda is currently fighting to recover from her surgery and may have to undergo another surgery in a week. The surgeons are unsure if she will ever be able to walk again.
Sharda has worked at AHS for 49 years. She has dedicated her life to her career and caring for others. She is a very hard worker and dedicated employee and is loved and appreciated by many co-workers. She is a very active 78 year old, who loves gardening and is very active within her church. She is also a loving wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend to many. This incident has changed her life as well as her families forever.
This fundraiser will help lessen the stress of any financial struggles she and her family will face during her recovery. She may never be able to work again due to her injuries. In addition to any home modifications that will be required for her to eventually return home. She will have to undergo extensive rehabilitation in the months to come.
Please keep Sharda and her family in your thoughts and prayers at this time and in the months to come. We are praying for a speedy recovery for Mrs. Naidu.
May God bless you all for your support.
