Share in Kim Miller's Fight Against Brain Cancer

On September 19th, 2022, Kim Miller, the Administrative Assistant of Reynolds Mountain Christian Academy, was not feeling well when she drove home early from her job. She called her husband Jason at work and asked him to come home. They went to the Emergency Room at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, because Kim was slurring her speech, and they were concerned she might have a stroke. After 6 hours of sitting in the waiting area, they went home as it was apparent the hospital didn't think it was a serious issue. On Wednesday, September 21st, still at home feeling ill, her face drooped on the left side. They went to their primary, and he believed she had Bell's Palsey. Now on steroids, Kim was still declining. By Friday, September 23rd, she could barely walk on her own. Jason took her to the Emergency Room at AdventHealth in Hendersonville. Advent quickly did an MRI and CT Scan (which Mission failed to do), and they discovered a tumor on her brain stem.
Kim and Jason were devastated. Advent Sent Kim by Ambulance back to Mission to the Oncology level late Friday night. The tumor was wrapped in her brain stem, and they needed to send her to a medical university for specialized care. Mission tried to get them into Duke, but Duke was overbooked. They got Kim into UNC-Chapel Hill to see Dr. Hadar, who specializes in Neurological Oncology. Kim traveled by medical transport, with Jason following on Sunday night, September 25th. They were able to get Kim into surgery for a biopsy Tuesday th 27th. Although the biopsy was successful, the surgery left Kim's right eye permanently closed and paralyzed on her left arm and leg. Kim and Jason stayed at Chapel Hill until Friday, September 30th, when they were released to come home. On October 4th, the doctors explained that Kim has an inoperable, Stage 4, Glioblastoma and gave her 6-12 months to live. The Millers are heartbroken but must remain hopeful as they continually pray for a miracle.
Kim is currently receiving chemotherapy and Avastin infusions from Messino Cancer Centers. She completed 15 radiation treatments at Mission Cancer Center. Kim's condition has worsened. She is unable to stand, speak or write. Kim communicates by pointing at a sheet with a qwerty layout. She is bedridden. Jason, and Kim's mother Kathy, provide daily ongoing care with the help of therapists from Centerwell and palliative care from Four Seasons. Jason and Kim have been married for 25 years. They are best friends, have a true romance, and have four beautiful daughters aged 14-22. Their family and friends pray every day for healing.
The hospital bills are coming in. Even though the Millers have insurance, not all bills are getting covered. They have been buying medical equipment and items necessary for Kim's care and will need to buy more as her condition changes. Kim is unable to work. Jason's employer has been supportive as Jason's role in the company is evolving with the situation, but their household income has taken a hit. They could use some financial help through this journey. Please donate if you can.
