JOY for DELANEY
On April 6, 2020 (her 10th birthday), Delaney Weigel suffered a sudden brain bleed. She was diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and immediately underwent 2 brain surgeries. During the first surgery they inserted a drain for the hydrocephalus (water in the brain), and during the second they removed a part of her skull bone at the base, cleared out the bleed, and removed the AVM.
Delaney is an amazing little girl who is not only strong but wonderfully innocent and pure. She is perpetually happy and radiates sunshine... just like her mom, Joy (never has a name been so appropriate for a person!). Joy has been raising Delaney (and Hayden, 12) as a single mom for 9 years, and works tirelessly to provide for them. She never turns down work and is always juggling multiple jobs while also being a full-time mom (and a damn good one!).
The coming months will be challenging for Joy, Delaney, and Hayden as Delaney faces 4+ weeks in the hospital, followed by an unknown amount of therapy and stroke recovery. As Joy devotes her days to Delaney's recovery, the family will lose their only source of income while also being faced with considerable medical expenses.
