In honor of World Cancer Day, Feb. 4th, we will be kicking off our fundraising efforts for Darla and Jerry Jaszko and raising cancer awareness.

The American Cancer Association states that in 2015 there are to be an estimated 1,658,370 new cancer cases diagnosed in the United States. Our job is to raise cancer awareness and support those in need. The Jaszko's have always been people willing to help anyone in need, and take care of their family and friends. Now its our time to help take care of them.

Statistics show that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Jerry and Darla have experienced these statistics first hand in their battle with cancer as well as with other members of their family. Jerry previously had an intense battle of Stage 4 Colon Cancer that had metastasized to his liver. He far exceeded any doctors’ expectations, and is now in remission, however he continues to struggle daily from the damage the cancer and chemo have done to his body. He is no longer able to work and is permanently disabled. He devotes all of his time doing what he can to take care of his family and their dog.

As most of you know, Darla has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, which is an incurable blood cancer that starts in plasma cells in the bone marrow. She is currently undergoing a stem cell transplant with the hope of going into remission. Since there are no curative therapies for this disease eventually all patients experience a relapse, and ultimately succumb to this disease. Despite the odds, Darla and Jerry remain strong in their faith, positive, and hopeful for a cure.

Darla and Jerry have a long road ahead of them. The fight against cancer brings along many medical expenses from surgeries, procedures, chemotherapy treatments, doctors’ visits, labs, tests, scans, long-term medications and the travel expenses of going back and forth from the hospital multiple times a week. Although insurance does help, these expenses do add up and we are hoping this fundraiser will help them with some of those burdens.

Over the course of the next couple months we are trying to establish additional fundraisers, but  for those who cannot participate in the other events or simply prefer a cash donation, here is the perfect opportunity for you to help out a family and community in need!
