My name is Wendy, and I am asking for help for my friend, Shari. In June of 2017, Shari was diagnosed with a rare type of Sarcoma called Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (MPNST). MPNST is a rare, aggressive tumor that occurs in roughly 3% of the population.
Chemotherapy and radiation were not an option and Shari was quickly faced with a limb-salvage vs. life-saving" decision. Amputation above her right knee was the only solution to save Shari's life.
Amputation has been a very difficult decision for Shari physically and emotionally. Additionally, she is experiencing the financial burden that cancer often brings. Shari has many specialist visits, scans, and physical therapy appointments as she learns to walk using a prosthetic. Eventually, Shari will need to purchase a newer model car, similar to her current CRV, which will allow for adaptations for left leg driving, ease of entering and exiting her car and space for transporting a wheelchair.
Shari has lost her job, working with Special Education students with a variety of medical, developmental, and physical needs. Her passion has always been to see the students she works with thrive.Shari is a single mom, so she has lost her only source of income.
Currently, Shari needs to pay out-of-pocket for all medical expenses including insurance, co-pays, therapy, and frequent MRI's and CT scans to monitor her body for any signs of metastasis, which is often in the lungs. It is our continued prayer that she remain cancer free.
Shari has always had a heart for helping others, but now she needs our help. Please help to encourage Shari by providing the financial support she desperately needs right now. THANK YOU!
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
