Sharon Albert’s Medical Expenses

On October 24th my mom went to Cape Regional for pain, to find that she had cancer. She was transferred to Cooper for further evaluation. Upon further tests they believe the cancer started as Ovarian and has spread throughout her whole abdomen and into two small spots on her lungs. While at the hospital she developed a bowel obstruction and had to have surgery for it on November 2nd. During surgery they took out her gallbladder because of the cancer. They dissected cancerous parts of her intestines and bowels, but were unable to patch the intestines back together. So she will have a colostomy and ileostomy bag for the rest of her life. She will be in the trauma icu for at least a few days and will be recovering in the hospital for at least a few weeks. She will also more than likely come home with a feeding tube. Because of this and her bags that she has now, she will have to come home with home nurses to help her learn how to navigate this new life for her. She will also eventually have to have another treatment plan for the remaining cancer.

My mom is a brave woman who is facing the beast of cancer with such strength and faith, but we all know the crushing reality of just how financially hard a situation like this can be on a person. She has already missed days of work from the pain she’s had since June, leading up to all this. She’s been in the hospital since October 24th and still has a long road ahead of her. With having been out of work so much already and with no idea of when she will be able to return to work, her bills will start piling up. To know my mom is to know compassion and love. She would give the shirt off her back for someone. She has worked as a one to one aide and a teachers aide at Cape May County Special Services for the last 20 years. She has had a passion for working in special education for as long as I can remember. She truly dedicates the best parts of herself to other people any chance she can. I’m asking for any help that we can give her in this time of need. Any cent makes more of a difference than you can imagine and any prayer being said is appreciated more than I can put into words. Anything to help her is all I could ever ask. Even if it is just thoughts for her, please shower her in all the love and care you can. My mother deserves it.
