For those of you that don't know me, I am Sharon's best friend in California. Sharon, Vince and Rosyln live in the once beautiful, quaint little fishing village of Pine Island, Florida, which was completely devastated by Hurricane Ian yesterday. They stayed and rode out the storm at their home, and we are grateful that they all are safe (including the chickens!) Pine Island is one of the small barrier reef islands that connect to Cape Coral. They were literally hit by the eye of the storm, and this magical place is now a disaster site of historical portions. The only road/bridge leading onto the island was completely wiped out. The local power plants were completely destroyed. Those of you that know Sharon and Vince personally also know that they also own a beautiful little motel on the island as well, called Serenity Bay. Although yet to be confirmed, they expect that the motel is a complete loss. Their hotel and rental property is a primary source of income, so the devastation for them is unfathomable. They have a long hard road ahead of them to rebuild, but for those of you that know them, we have no doubt that they will get through this. Meanwhile, I know they have a whole community of friends and family here that will rally behind them. While they weed out insurance, FEMA and all that, I would like to raise money to cover their immediate needs costs (i.e. food, gas, supplies), so they can take a deep breath and focus on getting back on their feet in the coming days, weeks and months.
