Sharon following her Cancer Treatment & SarcomaUK

Donation protected
Hey everyone, I will be doing a fundraising challenge through the Summer with the aim of a Charity night and a Pen Y Fan walk at the end of the Summer.

I am raising funds for my Mothers wheelchair equipment that is not covered by the NHS.

As a family we were devastated in 2021 when my Mother was diagnosed with MyxoFibroSarcoma in her left foot.

Sarcomas are uncommon cancers that can affect any part of the body, on the inside or outside, including the muscle, bone, tendons, blood vessels and fatty tissues.

15 people are diagnosed with sarcoma every day in the UK. That’s about 5,300 people a year, accounting for just 1% of all cancers in the world.

Following a long battle, my mother had the lump removed, along with a “flap” of nerves, tendons and skin from her arm to place over her foot. We thought that this would be the end of the nightmare, but unfortunately as they were unable to get a wide enough margin around her foot, the cancer spread to her lymph nodes in her groin, which meant more surgery in Feb 2022.

Post Groin Dissection in Feb 22, my mother developed an incredibly serious infection which was close to Sepsis, which meant that she had to have 3 debridements of her groin, leaving a permanent hole at the top of her thigh and we also had further devastating news that the Dr’s had been unable to gain any margin on this occasion. Given the aggressiveness of the cancer, it was almost inevitable that it would spread further again.

In April 2022, my mother discovered a new lump on the same foot and following tests in May 2022 it was discovered that the Sarcoma had returned. Over that month it grew significantly and the Drs decided in June 2022 that the only option left was to have a below the knee amputation.

Whilst the NHS supply’s wheelchairs and equipment for inside the home, my mother will also require a Scooter/Motorised Wheelchair for outside of the home which is between £2-3,000. We are hoping to use some funds towards the post care treatment and also hoping to make a donation to the charity Sarcoma UK to aid further research in the future.

If you could please spare anything towards this great cause it would be much appreciated.

Thanks always,

Ffion xx
