This is my best friend Kim. We have been friends for over 30+ years. Her mom Sharon, a lot of you may know her as “Midge” had a nasty fall on January 3rd 2024 that resulted in her breaking her femur in her left leg. Surgery was done and a success, but 6 hours after surgery Midge started complaining of numbness and pain in the leg. It was found that she had vascular disease and the trauma her body sustained from the fall and her surgery some plaque was dislodged and resulted in amputation above the knee. Midge spent about 2 month In the hospital, then went to rehab for physical therapy and was only there for 3 days before Kim found her unresponsive due to low blood sugar. Midge was then rushed back to the hospital where she stayed for another week. Midge was able to come home for a short time and then had to be re admitted into the hospital 2/19/24 for an infection in her amputation site. Midge started receiving HBO treatments ( Hyperbaric oxygen therapy ) in hopes it would help with the healing process. Midge had a month and a half stay that go around. After the HBO treatments Midge was then released from the hospital and transferred to another rehab facility for physical therapy. Midge stayed in the rehab facility for a month and was able to regain her strength back up and learn to handle being a amputee. Things were going pretty smoothly from April 2024 until June 13th. On Thursday June 13th Midge started complaining of right arm pain and numbness and she was having vision problems and was unable to see. Kim called EMS and Midge was taking to the emergency room. After many test were performed it was found that she had thrown a clot and needed emergency surgery to remove it or it would result in having to amputate her arm. Surgery was performed and they were able to remove the clot successfully. She was then taken to ICU and they performed more and it was found that Midge had multiple strokes. She has regained strength in her arm, but unfortunately she is still having difficulty seeing. She has a long road ahead of her and many doctors that she will have to follow up with once she is out of the hospital.
Midge is on a fixed income, and she does have health insurance, but there is still so many co payments and medical expenses that it just won’t cover it all and they have to be paid up front.
Midge will be coming home on IV antibiotics and will require them for 6 weeks and each week she has to make a copayment up front for them to ship the medication to her, and that adds up quick.
Kim helps her family out so much and has not left her mom’s side in over 6 months since this all started. With that Kim has missed a lot of work in order to care for her mom. I just wanna try and help take some of this financial burden off of them as much as I can.
If you can’t donate please share and continue to keep them all in your prayers!
Thanks
