Helping Sharon w/ her medical bills
Donation protected
I am Sharon Dupler's daughter Michelle. On February 16, 2014, my mom took a nasty fall down her stairs and broke her fibula (outer leg bone) in two places. One break was up close to her knee and the other down close to the ankle. She was in the hospital for four days while the ortho doctors decided what to do. Ultimately, they decided not to do surgery and to cast her leg. Over the next FIVE months, her lower break didn't heal resulting in the doctors deciding to do surgery on her ankle in July. All together, mom was out of work from February - late September. Disability didn't pay a whole lot and her medical bills piled up between x-rays, MRI's, dr. visits, surgery, & physical therapy.
Fast forward to now; the saga is starting all over. After complaining about a nagging pain in her ankle, trouble walking, large hot spot, and fatigue, the doctor ordered two extensive bone scans. Based on those, he sent her to an infectious disease specialist who determined the hardware installed during the surgery has caused an infection in her bone. The course of action is yet to be determined.
Sadly, Mom's employer switched insurance companies and none of her doctors are in network, thus resulting in none of her medical bills being covered.
As of this moment her expenses are over $10,000.00 and they're talking about doing another surgery. Plus she hasn't received her bill from the infectious disease specialist or her most recent ortho visits.
Any help you can be will be more than appreciated. She's a hard working woman and is jeopardy of losing a great deal due to these growing expenses. Who knew falling down the stairs would spiral down such an unsuspecting path.
