- Good morning! What a whirlwind the last month has been! Where to begin? Several weeks ago I bent down at work to pick a paper up and felt a little pull in my knee. It wasn’t painful so I really didn’t think much of it. Within a day or so though it had become painful and difficult to walk on so I went into the Dr. who referred me to Orthopedics. The Ortho ended up giving me a cortisone injection. A couple nights later I left work early because I couldn’t put any pressure at all on my knee and felt sick and had a low grade fever. I went home to bed hoping I would feel better in the AM, I did not and ended up in the ER. Blood cultures came back that I had a very serious and very rare blood infection that was going to try its best to take me out. I went in for emergency surgery to try to clear out some of the infection and was given IV antibiotics and put into isolation. I ended up having multiple other surgeries and getting a picc line put in because even after I am able to leave the hospital I will need to give myself IV antibiotics for the next 6-8 weeks. Due to the seriousness of the infection, they hit me with a lot of high powered drugs that ended up putting me into kidney failure, when it rains it pours! All my Dr.s are hopeful I will be able to get home within the next couple days now that the infection is handled and my labs are showing improved kidney function. If you know me, you know that I work as a server and support my kids that way. Taking multiple weeks off work unplanned have all but decimated my current finances. Hoping my TDI goes through at some point but I can’t even file for it till I’m out of the hospital. I appreciate all the kind words, calls and messages I’ve received, if you can spare anything to help me get back on my feet, literally! I would be so grateful!
