Shaunale Francis was 34 years old and had such a beautiful soul. She was a passionate songbird with a heart for people. Shaunale recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Shaunakencia, on January 2, 2019. While her doctors say she had a pretty normal pregnancy, minus a some swelling, she had a difficult time delivering naturally. She ultimately had to have a C-section. Doctors had to rush the baby to the NICU due to the amount of stress they endured during the delivery.
While the baby was admitted to the NICU, Shauna was being discharged only three days after giving birth. Despite her telling the on-call nurse that she wasn’t feeling well and wanted to stay. We would later find out that this information was not relayed to her doctor, otherwise the doctor would have permitted her to stay. The nurses told her she was only allowed to stay two days and she had already been there three. Shaunale didn’t understand but did as she was instructed and went home.
Less than six hours after being discharged her husband and mother had to rush her back to the hospital because she was having a difficult time breathing. Once they arrived at the hospital she sat down in a wheelchair, and her heart stopped. We would later find out Shauna had a heart attack. It took around eight minutes to stabilize her. Once she was stabilized, doctors attempted to run various test to find out what brought on the heart attack. Shauna had to be placed in a coma in order to finish the testing because she was constantly pulling out her tubes. Doctors discovered she had fluid around her heart and double pneumonia. We had so many questions …. how did this go undetected? How did it get this bad so fast?
The doctors kept her in the coma while they gave her medication and monitored her. After a few days they noticed various changes and needed to complete a brain scan. The results were devastating. The doctor’s determined that Shauna had significant brain damage. We were told she was without oxygen too long and that there was no longer blood flow to her brain. We held on as long as we could, unfortunately she went to be with the Lord today, January 12, 2019.
Shauna leaves behind a loving husband and two beautiful daughters (11 years old & a Newborn). We were not prepared to lose her at such a young age. We are asking for donations towards her home-going. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. RIH Shauna.
