Shauna's volunteer trip to Tanzania!
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Shauna Tierney. I am a 20-year-old second year nursing student in UCD. So far, I love my course as I gain great satisfaction out of helping others and this course gives me the opportunity to do this every day while on placement. I currently work part time as a carer in my local nursing home and broaden my knowledge on caring for people every day I work here. I have learned that it’s not so much the tasks you do for them but simply giving them time out of your day for a chat and some company that matters most. In my spare time I love nothing more than playing sports, farming and meeting friends and family for a chat. Last year I had the opportunity to take part in my local festival Queen of the lakes. I had the honour of being crowned this year’s queen and as part of my experience I have decided to do some charity work. For the month of June this year, I have decided to embark on my biggest adventure yet. I have decided to go to Tanzania, South Africa to volunteer for four weeks. I am volunteering in childcare for the month and during this time I will teach children basic English and maths while also helping to improve their living and learning conditions in the process. I will spend the month living in a volunteer host house in the middle of the village of Arusha. This is something I have always dreamt of doing and can’t believe is becoming a reality. Unfortunately, the reality is that this trip is not cheap as the programme fees, flights and compulsory vaccines are all adding up to quiet an amount. As you can imagine for a second-year college student this is a huge financial burden, so I am asking for some help. Any donations would be greatly welcome in order to help this dream become a reality. I will still be working hard to pay the remaining fees for my trip but any help at all would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you
