Shave and Buzz

Shave and Buzz is an annual philanthropy event hosted by Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at Duke. It is put on to raise funds for the Bobby Menges’ “I’m Not Done Yet”. Foundation, which helps cancer centers at various hospitals across the nation. In addition to raising money, brothers also shave their heads in support for current cancer patients and to honor two past brothers of Pike, Mark Schreiber and Bobby Menges.

Over the past 2 months, we have raised over $72,000. The Menges family thanks the Duke PIKE brothers and all the donors to the 5th Shave/Buzz head shave event held on March 21, 2020! Coronavirus forced the Shave to be held virtually, but in true PIKE fashion, the goal of $50,000 was still achieved! The Shave/Buzz funds donated to the I'm Not Done Yet foundation will be used to continue support of the Duke Cancer Institute's adolescent and young adult (AYA) Fertility Preservation program run by Dr. Lars Wagner, and the "Bobby's Coaches" peer support program run by Dr. Gary Maslow for AYA patients at Duke Medical Center. Both programs support the AYA demographic which is underserved and particularly vulnerable. I'm Not Done Yet contributes $145,000 to these programs annually, and is grateful to PIKE and everyone involved in the Shave/Buzz event for helping us raise those funds. The money donated via Gofundme will eventually be transferred into the Pi Kappa Alpha savings account under the name of Treasurer Zachary Berkman. Once the transfer is complete, a check will be written to Elizabeth Menges and the "I'm Not Done Yet" Foundation.
