Hello, my name is Sarah Post, I have made this go fund me account on the behalf of my brother Shawn DeBolt. I am trying to raise money for him due to a medical accident.

On 4/7/24 Shawn was the victim of a freak accident. He was spending his Sunday helping cut some trees. He was on a ladder against a tree using all safety equipment available to him at the time. Unexpectedly the tree snapped at the base causing Shawn to violently fall to the ground from about 30 feet high. This fall gave Shawn very serious injuries that required him to be transported by helicopter from Watkins Glen NY to Robert Packer hospital in Sayre Pennsylvania.

His injuries are cracked and fractured vertebrae in his back, and a fracture to his sacrum. His sacrum has a hairline fracture from top to bottom which he will be having surgery to place two screws to secure it back together. He will also be placed in a back brace.

The doctors have estimated that it will take Shawn six weeks to put any type of weight on his legs, twelve weeks to stand normally, four to six months to be weight bearing to where he can carry anything, eight to twelve months before he can be considered “back to normal”, and about a year before he can hold his children again. There will be more information after his surgery as well.

Even with the huge amount of pain Shawn is in, he remains in good spirits. The stress of the pain and the injury itself is a lot to deal with for him and his family. But another burden that he must face is the medical bills that will come his way. Due to unfortunate circumstances Shawn has no medical insurance. We want to ease this financial stress as much as possible. We would like for him to focus on the almost year long recovery that he has in front of him rather than these medical bills.
