Shawn Jr and Shane Car Accident

On May 4th our family was horrified to learn that our sons Shawn Jr and Shane Smith were in a horrendous car accident on the way to school. It is a miracle that Shawn Jr survived the immense impact of hydroplaning and spinning and slamming into a telephone pole with enough force to split it in half and pin him in the car. Shane was in the passenger seat and the impact wasn't on his side and suffered minor injuries. Shawn however was pinned in for over 2 hours while crews worked tirelessly to get him free. Thank god for the crews and pre-hospitalization doctors that were there to give him blood as he was losing his own due to internal bleeding injuries.

His injuries included a lacerated bowel and spleen, a broken femur, coccyx, and pelvis. He has undergone three surgeries so far and will need a reconstruct surgery of his pelvis which will be another major surgery.

His recovery will be long. He'll be in the hospital for at least a couple weeks or longer and then will have months of recovery and physical therapy.

During this time we will be required to miss work, I will be stopping work for the time and his dad will have to take time off periodically as moving him from his wheelchair for things like personal hygiene and any appointments that he will need to go on, will be a two person job.

The expenses will be adding up between medical and loss of income from lost work. I'm creating this go fund me to help offset some of the expenses as we deal with this situation that is now our life. Our family is a hard working blue collar one where funds are limited. This is going to impact us tremendously.
