Shawn's Road to Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
My name is Rachael
I am a cousin of Stephanie who is Shawn's wife.
Shawn had a Hemorrhagic stroke (deep brain bleed) on Saturday 4/13/2024.
Stephanie's sister who is a RN was on the property at the time and was able to swiftly provide medical care while waiting for emergency medical technicians to arrive. Shawn was then rushed by ambulance to the nearest hospital and quickly treated.
He was moved to ICU where his condition remained rocky for the first 12ish hours. Between Saturday night and Sunday morning he stabilized and is currently sedated (in a medicated sleep) and intubated (tubes in his throat/lungs to help him breathe).
At this time we are in the thick of it and waiting each day for signs of progress and for Shawn to wake up. Every morning he will get a CT Scan and a "sedation vacation" where they shut off his meds and try to get him to wake up. After a certain time frame, he will be sedated again until he can fully wake up and respond to the medical staff. They do not want his body to stress and cause any further damage.
Shawn's stroke was caused by a blood vessel bursting (popping) deep in his brain. The neurologist (brain doctor) believes this was brought on due to high blood pressure. Surgery is not an option because more damage would occur trying to reach the pool of blood. Shawn's type of stroke has a very high recovery rate and as long as he wakes up he will return to normal or almost normal. His brain should clean up the blood pool in a few weeks, and he will ideally wake up within this first week of care.
We are raising funds to cover some basic costs for Stephanie while she stays in the hospital with Shawn. The rest will be saved for pending medical bills.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me on Facebook. I have been and will continue to post daily updates on Facebook.
Thank you for your time and your donation. We appreciate you all and will continue to pass on your messages to Shawn and Stephanie during daily communication and visits to the hospital.
