Surgery and Saying Goodbye

Hi there. My name is Shayna. Saturday evening my (or anybody’s) worst nightmare came true. My youngest dog of two bit onto my face and shook me, taking almost my entire nose and upper lip. Trigger warning. Photo below of my current state.

After being rushed to the hospital via ambulance, hours of being in an ER room getting the wound cleaned, finally a surgeon came in and gave me two options; skin graft or forehead flap surgery.

He explained the surgeries in depth to me, and we decided on the forehead flap. It is an extensive, complex surgery that requires at least one additional surgery, but, provides the better outcome if my body agrees to it. The initial surgery went smooth and I am on day 4 of healing in preparation for the second surgery where he will remove the skin flap and begin reconstruction of my nose. This should take place on or around 2/10.

On top of this happening...my oldest baby Krieo, who I adopted 12 years ago, was diagnosed with stage 5 lymphoma just weeks before the incident. The cancer diminished his quality of life very quickly. I had already set up an in home euthanasia for Krieo at 9am on 1/21. So yesterday morning we still had to say goodbye to him :’(

Part of me has to believe that King, my dog that bit me, who would be 11 in February, could sense his brothers sickness, and that had something to do with why he was triggered so easily. I just can’t believe how extreme it all is.

My heart is in absolute shambles. If you know, you know. King is my “soul dog”. :’((

Between the cost of the euthanasia, the multiple surgeries I will endure (I’ve only had the first so far), months of missing work, and let’s face it, I’ll need some serious therapy, I am feeling extremely helpless for myself. This will be a long long journey for myself and my loved ones. Anything will help and would be appreciated beyond measure. My heart needs the most healing of all. Prayers please.
