Shay’s fight against Leukemia

Hello everyone, I am Shayleigh’s older sister Keanna. I have created this go fund me to help with travel expense, hotel stays, medical bills or anything that Shayleigh might need to make her more comfortable.

Shayleigh was 6 when she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. She had brain surgeries and received radiation treatment. Her life was forever changed by that, but she survived and she was a fighter. She has always proven to be a fighter, but no one ever expected that she would have to go through anything like that again.

On Monday July 24th Shayleigh was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia. On Tuesday July 25th she had a bone marrow biopsy and was told that she would be in the hospital for intense treatment for the next 6 weeks. On Wednesday she began her treatment at St. Luke’s in Utica. On Thursday morning the nurses found Shay unresponsive to voices and other stimuli. The doctors are unsure what is causing this and have been running many tests to try to figure out what exactly is causing her to be unresponsive. Shay has been able to hold our hands, give a thumbs up or point. However, she still hasn’t fully woken up or spoken to us. As of today (Friday) the choice has been made to transfer Shay to Roswell Hospital in Buffalo because of a treatment they have there that she needs. With that being said, I organized this fundraiser to hopefully alleviate some of the stress for my parents. My mom (Tanya) has taken a leave of absence from work and my dad (Scott) has taken off this week and as needed for the future. They will be staying in Buffalo with Shay during the next couple of months as Shay receives treatment. I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts, prayers, kind words and any donations you have already sent to us. We all feel so loved and supported by you. It is encouraging knowing we have a whole community praying for Shayleigh and for the rest of us during this difficult time. Shayleigh is a fighter, she has proven that to us before and we are going to show her that we are with her again every step of the way.
