Shay's Stem Cell Transplant
Donation protected
In January 2014 I went on a trip for the United States Navy Reserves and got sick. No big deal, until the day I returned home and my foot was tingly. Fast forward a couple of months and I continued to have tingling and numbness in my feet, I was also becoming weak. In April 2014 I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome and was hospitalized twice without any relief. In May my neurologist was puzzled as to why I was not getting better. Fast forward another two months and I can no longer stand up- I go to the ER at UCLA, I am rediagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP). I spent nearly two months in the hospital for physical and occupational rehab. It's a neurological disorder similar to MS but impacts the peripheral nervous system.
The last time I would work, drive, or walk unassisted was 5/15/2014. It is now 2017 and I have not made significant improvement and there is no cure for my disorder because it is quiet rare. But there is hope..... a hematopioetic stem cell transplant (HSCT) to force me into remission and reset my immune system so my body can begin to heal itself. Yes, there will be chemo!
My new bucket list is short... I want to be able to work, drive, and take my dog for a walk.
I plan to raise these funds in order to recieve the transplant, as it is not covered by insurance, nor do I receive any assistance from the VA. I am also accepting donations of art, gift cards, or professional services (Cleveland area only) for a live fundraiser. This is a great way to showcase your business! You can also donate frequent flyer miles from United or American Airlines to help get me there. Thank you all so much!
