Together for Cadi: A Journey of Recovery and Hope!
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Seth Grow, a close friend of Cadence (Cadi) Xie. In support of Cadi and her family, I am coordinating this effort with Cadi's close friends and family. Her parents, Frances Yang (beneficiary and mother) and Richard Xie, have created a dedicated account for Cadi's recovery and all donations will be transferred there.
The Accident
On October 21, 2024, Cadi was riding her motorcycle to class, at Virginia Tech, when she approached an intersection on campus. However, an oncoming driver allegedly failed to yield on their yellow left turn, crossing into Cadi's path. With little to no time to react, Cadi and her motorcycle collided with the driver's SUV. Cadi was ejected from her motorcycle, landing on the other side of the SUV before quickly losing consciousness.
As MedFlight was unable to respond fast enough, Cadi was rushed to LewisGale Montgomery Hospital via ambulance. Due to the critical nature of her injuries, she was then airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Her Injuries
After assessment, Cadi was moved to the operating room to begin treating her injuries. She miraculously survived her heart’s aorta being ruptured, her pelvis fractured in multiple places (high risk to her abdominal organs), a collapsed lung and other extensive injuries, all causing life-threatening amounts of internal bleeding. The injury to her heart alone has a less than 1% chance of survival. It was a miracle that her heart surgery went well, allowing her to regain consciousness shortly before going back into surgery. Uncertain that Cadi would survive, we are thankful her surgeries went well and seem to have repaired her most critical injuries.
If it were not for the heroic efforts of the bystanders, first responders, and the highly skilled medical professionals that cared for her, Cadi would not have survived. But against all odds and aided by the prayers of many, Cadi has pulled through and we have not lost her.
What now?
Cadi is beginning a very long and difficult road to recovery. She will be transferred to an inpatient rehab facility for an indefinite period. She will be confined to a bed for 6 to 12 weeks and will require round-the-clock medical care. During her period of confinement, she will be able to slowly integrate physical and occupational therapy, which is expected to take many months, perhaps even years.
As a hard-working student at Virginia Tech, her academics have been completely disrupted. We are uncertain about the future of her academic career as she may need to withdraw from school and/or take extra time to complete her degree.
Things will be very difficult for Cadi and her family for an extended period. Health insurance will cover some, but not all, of her medical expenses, which are anticipated to be very high. In addition to medical expenses, her family will incur many other costs to rearrange their lives around her recovery, such as time off from work, travel, lodging, etc. We are also expecting added tuition costs from extending her academic career. Any donations will go toward assisting the family and Cadi as she recovers and adjusts to her changed life.
A Little About Cadi
Cadi has a snappy personality. She is a kind and caring young woman who is loved by all. She loves animals (especially her dog Duke!). Cadi is highly motivated and thoughtful about everything she does. In addition to her full course load, Cadi works overnight milking and feeding cows and during the day volunteers at Virginia Tech farms caring for the baby pigs. Cadi has always had a passion for life and been full of joy.

Please continue to pray for Cadi. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and donations.
