JUNE 2019 UPDATE: Well after 7 months, recovery has been good. Doctors are keeping up on PET scans and chemo. About a week ago she went in for her normal check up and nothing glowed for having cancer but they did find a small bump on her thyroid, hoping it is nothing they ordere her to follow up with a small ultrasound, still not knowing any results they ordered a needle biopsy. Which leads us today, sitting in the waiting room. Still with no results and struggling with bills, we please just ask for your Prayers and support.
More Updates to come.

OCTOBER 2018 UPDATE: Stem cell transplant starts in one week! This week Mom has final meeting with her transplant doctor, PET scan, and begins her Neupogen injections to prepare for the stem cell harvest. Next Monday she will be on a machine for 4 hours daily until enough stem cells are harvested for 2 transplants. The following Tuesday, October 16, she will be admitted to the hospital. We're so thankful for all the help and support we've received. Specific needs for this month will include transportation, meals, and lodging for Mom and caregiver(s).

About 2 months ago my mom was diagnosed with a rare case of multiple myeloma, a cancer that is located within the bone marrow, and through out years slowly produces tumors in the organs, but in this case it was a little different. My mom’s name is Katherine Fitzgerald, and besides being a fighter, she is also a single mother of 4, ranging in age from 24 to 02. In April my mother was sent by ambulance to the hospital for abdominal pain and hemorrhaging; after hours of testing and waiting for results, my mother’s uterus had ruptured causing bleeding and blood clots. She was soon rushed into surgery for an emergency hysterectomy. While speaking to the surgeon afterwards, he proceeded to explain to me that a tumor had attached itself to her uterus, growing to the point where it caused itself to rupture. Soon after recovery we received news that the tumor was cancerous. While spending the next couple weeks in doctors’ offices and bed rest our family kept growing closer, but what we didn’t know, was that wasn’t the only thing growing. My mother’s neck for some reason, just kept swelling, the next week we found ourself back at the hospital again. A tumor. Within less than 2 weeks an enlarged tumor formed itself through her neck and under her collarbone. While moving forward and monitoring tests my mom soon produced 6 more tumors; 4 in the right breast and 2 in the left. All tests confirmed, that she is fighting multiple myeloma. June 26th, 2018 she was admitted back into the hospital, they proceeded to find 2 more tumors under the chin. She is now in her second series on chemo treatments with expectations for back to back stem cell pttransplants. My mother is a Warrior, and for this battle she will come out victorious, so I ask not just for blessings, I ask for prayers for our mother and our family and to know that every little bit helps. God bless.
