Sheffield United Cricket Club Scoreboard

Sheffield United Cricket Club (SUCC) is a community-based organization that aims to promote the sport of cricket in the S9 area of Sheffield, a deprived area with a high South Asian population. Our mission is to provide opportunities for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to participate in the sport, and to foster a sense of community through shared experiences and teamwork. We believe that cricket is a powerful tool that can be used to bring people together, to promote healthy and active lifestyles, and to build stronger, more resilient communities.

Sheffield United Cricket Club has been in operation for over 150 years. It relies on a dedicated group of volunteers and coaches who work tirelessly to provide cricket programs for youth and adults in our local community. Despite our efforts, we have faced several challenges in recent years, one of which is the lack of appropriate equipment and facilities to support our programs. Specifically, our current cricket scoreboard is in poor condition and is no longer functional, making it difficult for players and spectators to keep track of game scores and progress.

The lack of a functional scoreboard has meant that the club is not able to host representative county level age group or Academy level cricket matches. This means that our local community is not able to see role models playing the sport, other than, until very recently, (with the advent of the 100) on pay per view television. There is evidence to suggest that having representative sports in an area can increase participation, particularly among underrepresented groups. Studies have shown that seeing individuals from similar backgrounds, defined as role models succeeding in a particular sport can serve as a motivation for others to participate in that sport. We strongly believe that seeing South Asian players, playing in Yorkshire representative cricket at our ground in age group matches will increase participation in the sport in our area.

Therefore we are appealing for help to fund a new scoreboard.
