Help Shelley Fight Deadly Cancer!!!
Donation protected
Just recently my very dear friend Shelley Boyd was diagnosed with a very dangerous cancer, Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head & Neck with an unknown primary. This is a very aggressive metastatic aggressive cancer that has already spread to nearby lymph nodes.
She's a mother of 2 and has always been healthy until now. There have been endless visits to doctors, radiologists, oncologists, labs, biopsies, scans, and now she is facing an intense surgery. An open neck disection will hopefully reveal the primary source of the cancer. They have already found multiple tumors that are confirmed malignant but not confirmed as the primary source. They will also be removing these tumors at this time.
She could not believe when the ENT told her she had cancer. Every biopsy and lab was to take 3-5 days for results but they were hunting her down within 24 hours with her next update scheduled. The original ENT, Dr Bader let her know if had been lymphoma it would have been the easiest to treat and squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck would be the most difficult and dangerous due to it's location and ability to metastaticize thru the body.
They have removed cells and tissue thru biopsy testing and she has already had multiple laryngoscopies.
While removing these turmors they will remove as many as 30 lymph nodes and anything else they find during the surgery. Surgery and treatment are her only chance of fighting this cancer. Without it most patients long-term prognosis is daunting.
Baron Sumer of UT Southwestern Medical Center, of the Head & Cancer Treatment facility says the 1st step in this battle is the surgery which will confirm staging then followed up with any updated diagnosis with treatment plan. UT Southwestern has the TOR which is a robot that performs the surgery by Dr. Sumer. Using a robot arm to perform surgury in this area significantly increases her chances of recovery with fewer side affects and complications associated with standard open neck surgeries. They have an entire team to help and support her thru this and ensure the best potential outcome which we all know is to be cancer free.
Unfortunately, in order to have this procedure her portion of medical cost is more than the deductable which the physician is requiring to be met along with her out of pocket expense.
The last thing someone needs in a case like this is to be worried about paying for treatment, so I am asking anyone that is able to donate whatever they can to help, no matter how small. Any help at all would be appreciated.
