Shelter Kalamazoo
Tax deductible
Shelter Kalamazoo --a Michigan nonprofit corporation-- is partnering with CALTRAN, our 501(c)(3) sister charity and fiduciary, to raise $500,000 to purchase and operate shelters for homeless Kalamazoo citizens. Each shelter is made of insulated aluminum and has two beds (64ft) or three beds (100ft), a heater, air conditioning, and room for storage.
Phase One: Our shelters will be set up downtown near the Ministries with Communities facility where our guests can access basic necessities such as free showers, laundry facilities, a computer lab, and food. Our outreach coordinators will provide assistance to aid our shelter guests in securing community resources to improve their quality of life.
Phase Two: A total of 100 tiny homes will be constructed to accommodate our displaced residents. As our homes are built, Shelter Kalamazoo staff will evaluate the needs of our guests and assist them in transitioning into one of our homes. Donations, grants, and rent will be used to build and maintain our facilities.
Your generous gift will enable Shelter Kalamazoo to purchase and operate 50 shelters to help our homeless brothers and sisters live with dignity while we assist them with securing permanent housing. No Tent! No Tarps! No Way!

History: Shelter Kalamazoo was founded in 2018 during the homeless encampment protest in Bronson Park. Seeing little progress to resolve this crisis and COVID-19 having a detrimental impact on our economy, a board of directors was formed. On January 6, 2021, the state of Michigan incorporated our nonprofit enterprise. Our application for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the IRS is pending.
Our Mission: To build 100 tiny homes and operate 50 shelters to restore honor and dignity to displaced individuals and families in metropolitan Kalamazoo.
