Shemwells BBQ
Shemwell’s BBQ and the Cairo Community have suffered a tremendous loss. It has been in business at its present location, 1102 Washington Avenue, since 1946. Emily Pace Meyer and her husband, Robert Meyer, have been given the task of carrying on the Shemwell tradition and have done it well.
However, on July 12th, a very unusual accident occurred rendering the building unusable. The front seating and counter portion of the building was declared uninhabitable. They had to completely close until the health inspectors gave them the ok to resume the business operation just in the back of the structure.
They have reopened for just carry out services on Thursday, Sept. 3rd after six weeks of being closed. They are operatingout of the rear of the building.
Emily and Robert want to rebuild their counter and seating area so that everyone can once again enjoy this Cairo tradition. So it can once again be a gathering place for former residents and friends to gather.
There is only a limited amount of insurance money that can be recouped and they are going to have to make a substantial investment to bring it back using theirown money. It is a monumental investment to make this commitment during this day and time.
That is why I am asking ALL those who have ever enjoyed Shemwell’s BBQ to make a donation showing them that we, as a community, are supporting this endeavor. We want them to reopen and servethe fine barbecue that has been their signature for many, many years. These funds will go directly to them and let them know that we are behind them 100 percent.
Please give!!!
