A note from Michelle's Brother...

Michelle Shepardson is a middle school math teacher and a single mother of two teenage boys. She has been a fixture in the Millis community for years and has touched the lives of countless students and their families. She is thoughtful, generous, and caring. All who know her agree that the world is a better place with Michelle in it.

In 2016 Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went through surgery and radiation, and in July of that year she completed her last round of chemotherapy. We all celebrated because she was finally done with cancer. But we were wrong. In March of 2022, after being diagnosed with a different form of breast cancer, she completed radiation and chemotherapy and we celebrated again because surely, she was done with cancer now. But we were wrong again. A few months ago Michelle learned she has brain cancer. The doctors are optimistic that it can be successfully treated with radiation and medication, but surgery is also a possibility depending on how the cancer responds to treatment.

Through each of her previous two bouts with cancer Michelle stayed strong and positive. She benefitted from love and support from people far and wide (often from those whom she didn't even know) and for that she is eternally grateful. But she is a person who offers help, not one who asks for it. Which is why we are asking for her. Michelle continues to be strong and confident, but even the strongest among us need help when faced with challenges like this.
