Recovery For Mum's Brain Surgery
Donation protected
Hey everyone,
**UPDATE**
Funds raised so far will nearly cover living costs and expenses provided mum can go back to work in April however even with government assistance the out of pocket cost for the hearing aid she doesn’t have.
The impact of not getting the hearing aids asap is making her recovery more difficult as she needs to work so hard to hear. Mum’s hearing has deteriorated on both side which was not expected.
Mum has been approved for job seeker sick from Centrelink but will not receive any payments till probably the end of March, maybe 3 payments over the time she is off work.
Mum has the money set aside for living costs that can be used for the hearing aid but than living costs cannot be covered.
Mum has set a goal for the end of March to attend a Fast Flip Formula Bootcamp. This is a positive goal for mum to work towards for her mental health. She would be around friends and people that mean a lot to her. The cost to mum will be under $500 for accommodation at the cheapest place she can get. (If anyone has a cheap or free option please reach out)
She will not be able to attend this event without the hearing aid as it would be too difficult.
Mum is not asking for funding for this she just wanted to be honest and transparent this was one of her goals. It may not be something she can attend if she is still not up to it however after weeks of recovery this gives mum hope of a light at the near end.
Unknowns still post operation - full outcome for if future treatment is required can’t be assisted till the swelling goes down and an MRI after 6 weeks. Expectation is mum can return to work in April however that is provided there is no set backs or further treatment that will prevent her driving or working.
Mum is recovering well and able to do far more than expected at this early stage but just needs to take everything very slow and take each day as it comes.
The doctors have recently discovered a large, non-cancerous brain tumor (34mm) that requires immediate surgical intervention. While we explored all possible treatment options, the tumor's size necessitates surgery as the only viable course of action.
The recovery period following surgery is expected to be at least three months before my mother can return to work, assuming no complications arise.
We have thoroughly investigated all available financial support options, including grants, payment plans, and early superannuation access, but unfortunately, none of these avenues are currently accessible to my mother. We are currently exploring the possibility of a small payment through Centrelink, but this will only be determined post-surgery and will likely provide limited short-term support.
To alleviate the financial burden and ensure a smooth and stress-free recovery for my mother, we have created this GoFundMe campaign. Our goal is to raise $20,000, which will enable her to cover essential bills, afford nutritious meals, and access the necessary physical rehabilitation.
A dear friend of my mother previously initiated a GoFundMe campaign that successfully raised $8,819, for which we are incredibly grateful. We deeply appreciate every single donation received. However, that initial campaign has now been closed, and we are now aiming to raise an additional $10,000 to reach our overall goal.
We understand that every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant difference. Your generosity will be invaluable in helping my mother navigate this challenging period.
As we had to start a new GoFund me page Mum insisted we acknowledge all the previous donations from the last one so here it is !
