- A passionate soul who gave so much to so many -

June 28, 1954 – July 14, 2022

Sheri Nielson, a mentor and friend to so many individuals both within and outside of the agricultural industry, passed away suddenly on the morning of July 14th from a heart attack.

Sheri was a full and robust person who led a passionate life, from running away with the circus (literally) to joining the RCMP reserves and being a paramedic to becoming a highly respected specialist in the food safety industry, where she remained until her passing.

Her food safety journey consisted of working with CanadaGAP, NSF, and the BC Vegetable Marketing Commission, as well as being a food safety consultant. The implementation and focus that Sheri showed to many throughout the industry was flawless. Sheri never stopped listening, researching and answering questions and was always available to farmers and others in the industry. Her impact and mentoring have been invaluable assets across the industry and many of us will greatly miss her support, friendship and guidance for many years to come.

Sheri’s vision was to build a sustainable food system and teach others how to grow, harvest and preserve their own food. After many years of renting, Sheri, along with her partner, Dudley, had just begun the realization of her dream on Salt Spring Island with the purchase of their first property only 6 years ago.

At Sheri's request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please help Dudley manage the unexpected expenses that arise with such a sudden and tragic loss. There will be funerary and estate expenses, along with the cost of new and unforeseen living expenses. As you can imagine, these first days and weeks are critical.

Your generous support, regardless of the amount, will help Dudley navigate through this unimaginable time. Sheri would be very grateful.
