Sheri Rochel's Battle With Breast Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tayler Lichty, I am Sheri's youngest daughter. I am starting this fundraiser in an attempt to ease the mountain of burdens my mother has had to face these last few years.
My grandmother and I were discussing all of the recent events when I was updating her on the status of the cancer. She said something that rings so true. It was something along the lines of..
"You know those dramas where bad things just keep happening to the people on the show, and you think to yourself, this is so fake, this many bad things don't happen at once... well Tayler, we now know, they do"
So with that..
I'll keep this as brief as possible. Also, some people affected by recent events want to remain nameless, so vague snippets will have to suffice.
Sheri was diagnosed with melanoma in 2021. She had deep rooted melanoma removed from multiple spots, leaving scars up to 6 inches long. Her last melanoma was removed in March of 2022, which was thankfully caught quickly by her amazing doctor. Since then she has been clear and we hope to keep it that way.
After recovering from that, and missing some work, a few months later my grandfather fell ill. His three daughters took up a schedule to take care of him daily. This went on for months. Thankfully he is doing much better now.
In the last few months, things flipped upside down again. A close family member has been diagnosed with a cancer that was hard to catch early and therefor a later stage. Doctor visits have become urgent and repetitive.
Sheri jumped into action, as she does. Driving 50+ miles, spending hours in appointments, 5 days a week, and that's understating her time and energy spent.
All the while waiting for her chance to be tested. To find the news we didn't want, but thankfully caught early enough.
Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer.
In the coming months Sheri will undergo a partial to full mastectomy. Radiation and estrogen blocking therapies.
Further testing will determine the need for chemo/other surgeries.
Her doctor has said that her chance of survival is high, but to achieve that, her life in the coming months will be uncomfortable and consumed by doctors appointments and procedures.
Writting this out this way, feels clinical and cold. Although I know those words alone are enough to express the need for help. As I'm sure people can understand all the work missed, medical bills, gas tanks filled, time spent, let alone emotional distress.
But to me, the reason I feel my mom deserves this, stems from my memories.. of every yes I've heard her say, every dollar she's shared, every person she's invited to our table, every time she's been the first to help and the last to leave.
If you've stumbled upon this, from a friend of a friend, ask someone, and I'm sure they'll agree.
It is a burden lifted to have her in your life.
My hope for this fundraiser is to show her how that feels, so she can know what it feels like to have a "Sheri" in her life.
The donations will go to covering missed income(medical leave only pays 60%)
Mortgage payments
Utilities
Gas
Food
A coffee on a gloomy day stuck at a hospital
Etc.
My mom isn't one to ask for help, but I know she will appreciate every dollar that is shared and/or every positive thought you can send our way.
