Sherpa Woman Climbing Everest for a Greater Cause
Donation protected
My dear sister Tsering Sherpa, inspires me everyday. I am so happy to help her bring her dreams to life. Katrina Webb OAM
Namaste, my name is Tsering Yangji Sherpa. I was born in Chhermading, a small village hidden in the heart of the Everest region. While the world looks at these mountains in awe, for me, they are home—a place where I took my first steps, where my ancestors carved their paths, and where my dreams were born.
I come from a family deeply connected to Nepal’s trekking and tourism industry. But despite growing up in the shadow of Everest, I saw that few women ever dared to climb it. Since the first ascent in 1953, only 7.47% of summiteers have been women, and among them, just 90 are Nepali. Women. In a country where the mountains are in our backyard, why are so few women reaching the top?
The truth is, mountaineering has long been a male-dominated field. Women face countless barriers—financial, societal, and cultural. Many are told that climbing is not for them. Many never even consider it an option. But I refuse to accept that.
Choosing to Stay, Choosing to Lead
While many young people leave Nepal in search of better opportunities, I have chosen to stay. Not because it’s easy, but because I believe in my country. I believe in the untapped strength of its people, especially its women. And I believe that adventure has the power to change lives.
Mountaineering is more than just reaching the summit—it is about breaking barriers, defying expectations, and showing the world what is possible. If I can stand on the top of Everest, I hope it will inspire other Nepali women to dream bigger, climb higher, and claim their place in the mountains. And if just one women is inspired by my climb then it’s a win for me.
A Mission Beyond Myself
My journey is not just about mountaineering, it is also about compassion.
Since childhood, I have had a deep love for animals & social work. In Nepal, street dogs and other vulnerable animals suffer in silence, often facing hunger, disease, and abuse. They have no voice—but we do.
Through my Everest climb, I want to raise awareness and funds for animal welfare in Nepal with Shree Animal Rescue center a home for more then 500 + street animlas ensuring these animals receive care, protection, and love. We measure a society not just by its great achievements, but by how it treats its most helpless members. This climb is for them too.
Why I Need Your Support
Climbing Mount Everest is not just a personal goal—it is a platform for change. This journey represents:
1. Empowering Women in Adventure: Breaking barriers and inspiring more Nepali women to lead in mountaineering and adventure sports.
2. Giving a Voice to the Voiceless: Raising awareness and funds for Nepal’s neglected street animals, ensuring they receive the care they deserve.
An expedition of this scale requires immense preparation, training, and financial resources. Your support will help cover permits, climbing gears & equipments, training, logistics, and contributions to animal welfare initiatives. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to making this vision a reality.
Be a Part of This Journey
I am not just climbing Everest for myself.
I am climbing for every woman who has been told she is not strong enough.
I am climbing for every street dog that has been ignored and abandoned.
I am climbing for Nepal—to show that we have the power to rise, to lead, and to create change.
I invite you to be a part of this journey. With your support, we can make this expedition more than just a climb—we can make it a movement.
